PROJECT: SEXUAL ABSTINENCE

Dear Pastors, Ministry and Business Leaders in West Virginia... Friends of Church in the City and Pray WV

I would like to introduce you to the "Believe in West Virginia Leadership Foundation."  It is a faith-based interdenominational, nonpartisan, nonprofit organization which seeks to help change the economic and social environment in West Virginia, improve the business climate of our state, and provide life-long opportunities for our children and grandchildren. http://www.believeinwv.org

A Cultural Epidemic
One major issue the BIWV Leadership Foundation desires to address is Sexual Abstinence among our state's youth. Middle School and High School teenagers in West Virginia are facing a cultural epidemic.  Teenage sex is stated as one of the biggest pressures on our teens.  The culture forces them to decide whether having sex is acceptable despite the strong evidence of disease, emotional pain, and other long-term, life-altering implications.

Silver Ring Thing Sexual Abstinence Program
In cooperation with the national "Silver Ring Thing Sexual Abstinence Program," our goal is to educate our teens, in an appealing manner, by presenting an MTV-style program that challenges them to make a commitment, in the presence of their peers, to maintain sexual abstinence until marriage.  The Silver Ring Thing (SRT) program (usually on a weekend evening ) presents a Christ-centered message of abstinence, character, leadership, and personal responsibility in a way that appeals to the 21st century teenager, using high-tech sound and lighting, special effects, and comedy performances about guys, girls, dating, love, second chances, and choices.  As they make their pledge of abstinence, the teens will make an outward commitment by placing a silver ring on their finger.  An opportunity call is given at the program's end.

1st Silver Ring Program In West Virginia
The first SRT project in West Virginia was held in the fall of 2003, Maranatha Fellowship in St. Albans was the host venue.  There were 700+ in attendance, 357 pledged their lives to purity, and 77 dedicated their lives to the Lord.  All glory belongs to Him. Immediately following the SRT presentation, there will be an "After Thing" Party from 9 - 11pm All participants will be treated to live music from local Christian Bands.  Concessions and SRT merchandise will be available.

Your Invitation
The long-term goal of the Believe in West Virginia Leadership Foundation is to saturate the state with this message and to achieve a "peer pressure reversal" so that sexual abstinence becomes the norm among young, rather than the exception.  With this goal in mind, we are inviting you, the Pastors, Ministry and Business Leaders in our cities and those you would desire to invite, to "Come and See" the SRT presentation at King's River Worship Center.

Sincerely in Christ
Tom Miller
