WHO ARE WE...

Jesus Christ Unlimited (JCU) was founded in 1976 out of the  revival that hit Nitro High School. That year JCU hosted "Spirit of ‘76" a Jesus Festival that brought together young adults and contemporary Christian music.

Between the years of 1976 and 1981 members
of JCU hit the streets of Charleston
                 with  Christian musicians and drama.
It was a common sight to see young adults
in white mime makeup sharing the message

of Jesus Christ with all that passed by.

JCU continues to grow up and Positrax, an edgy, "new wave" radio show was born. Burgess Willis, of JCU, and his band, "Cutting Edge" hosted a Saturday night late show on Joy 101 (currently Praise 101).  Also "FNARP" -Friday Night All Request Party- kept the young guys busy running to pay phones, making up names and calling in bogus request.

Positrax, (JCU) brought in many national Christian artists to high school gymnasiums, churches, and the Municipal Auditorium. Christian music even graced the local Pizza Hut and Christian skate night was all the rage. Positrax was put on hold with the death of Burgess in 1991.

After Burgess' death, his young fans and the children of JCU made a pac to bring it all back when the time was right. The summer of 2000 sparked this dormant desire of 10 years.

Immediately following Cornerstone 2000 (a 200 band, open field, mud sucking, heat blistering, hard, alternative, crazy, Christian music festival) a letter was written to the legendary Michael Knott asking him to be that spark...

June 21st...Michael Knott wanted to come back with a full band...how could we say no...On this night the people poured in once again into an over 100 degree Warehouse...Shakespeare played loud and Ticklepenny Corner, from Wisconsin, made some new fans...Michael Knott showed up in long sleeves and long pants but this did not discourage his performance... In Michael Knott style he took "Shakespeare's" lead guitarist guitar and began the set by creating some awesome sounds by slapping the guitar with it's stripe. His band, kept movin' and the whole house rocked ...Mike was havin' fun. Down front three pre-teen girls were rockin' and Mike invited then on stage  for a couple songs you could hear the squeals over the music...what a night!
